Proofreading

  • Proofreading is suitable for when the document has already been edited and just needs a professional eye to do a final check.
  • No major editing or extensive rewriting is required.
  • Minor sentence restructuring to assist with flow.
  • Checks for basic spelling and punctuation errors.
  • Establishes consistent use of abbreviations, capitalization, italics, terminology and numbering.

Editing

  • Editing is suitable for when the document needs a major overhaul.
  • Attention needs to be given to language usage, sentence structure, spelling, grammar, punctuation, logical flow, consistency, clarity, and overall style.
  • Elimination of unnecessary duplication and repetition.
  • Establishes consistent use of tenses, abbreviations, capitalization, italics, terminology and numbering.
  • Paraphrasing and rephrasing if necessary.

About the Editor

With a PhD, MTh, BA (hons) in Psychology, and BTH (hons) in Practical Theology, I have a broad knowledge base and am able to work across disciplines. This is complemented by the vast experience I have accumulated from working in various roles in academia as a tutor, lecturer, academic coordinator, programme coordinator, and interim head of department at various times during my academic career.

I have been offering professional proofreading and editing services both nationally and internationally since 2011. With a good eye for detail, I help produce a clearly understood, grammatically correct, polished document, making your writing the very best it can be. I work on a wide range of non-fictional and academic material, including books, book chapters, journal articles, manuscripts, dissertations, theses, research proposals, and so on. Although, on occasion, I have also edited the odd autobiography or some fictional material.

Most of my work is with humanities and social sciences texts. However, I welcome enquiries relating to almost any subject matter, and have edited a wide range of topics in a plethora of diverse fields, including missiology, theology, homiletics, religious studies, philosophy, psychology, social work, child and youth care work, family studies, education, science and technology education, psychology of education, sociology, theological ethics, and even engineering (robotics), chemistry, and agriculture.

How long will it take to edit my document?

This depends on the word count of your document, the level of editing required, and my availability.

Can I get a sample edit first?

Yes, please send me a page or two of your document for a free sample edit.

How does the editing process work?

I will edit the text of your document directly using the Microsoft Track Changes functionality. Additional feedback and comments will be provided in comment boxes.

How does payment work?

Once the document has been accepted for editing, and an editing agreement is in place, editing will only commence after a 50% deposit has been received. The balance needs to be settled before the final edited document is handed over.

For lengthy documents such as books or theses/dissertations, editing and payment is per chapter.

What is the policy for cancellation?

You can cancel your editing request/booking at any time. However, if editing has already commenced, there will no longer be an option for a refund.

Please also make sure that you submit the correct/final version of your document for editing. If the wrong version has been submitted, and editing has already commenced, the cost for additional editing will be calculated according to the original agreed upon editing rate.

I am still writing my thesis/dissertation, can I send you some of my chapters to edit so long?

Yes, for theses/disertations, I usually edit one chapter at a time. In such cases, payment is per chapter. I can also edit the chapters in no specific order.

Please note: If any significant changes are made to the edited chapters/document (other than attending to the editorial comments and track changes), additional proofreading rates will apply to recheck the chapters/document.

How much will it cost me to edit my document?
